A Keratin Treatment are used all over the world to create beautiful straight, shiny hair. You can expect to pay between $100 and $500 for a single keratin treatment at a salon. Doing keratin treatments yourself won’t give you custom results since at-home treatments don’t evaluate your individual hair type. At-home treatments tend to be less damaging but last for a shorter amount of time. For example, if you have a light hair color, a salon professional can adjust the formula so that the tonality of your hair shade doesn’t change. But if you use a weaker formula it shouldn’t change the color.

Keratin Treatment are usually a 3-step process starting with:

Step 1: Pre-Treatment Shampoo:

Wash your hair with an anti-residue shampoo. Massage the shampoo into your hair and work up a lather. Let it sit for three to five minutes, then rinse it out. Apply the shampoo as many times as needed until the hair is completely clean. Make sure to rinse it completely out of your hair afterward. Don’t apply any hair conditioner or mask. Just leave your hair clean. Anti-residue is formulated to remove build-up from your scalp, such as from conditioners or styling products. This will prepare your hair to absorb the keratin treatment evenly. The anti-residue shampoo is sometimes called “clarifying shampoo.”

Step 2: Straightening Serum

Blow dry your hair until it’s almost completely dry. Run your hands through your hair as you blow dry on a medium heat setting. Make sure that your hair is evenly damp unless your product’s directions state otherwise. A Brazilian treatment requires your hair to be slightly damp (75-90% dry), whereas a keratin treatment requires fully dry hair. Since the terms “Brazilian” and “keratin” are sometimes used interchangeably, it’s important to check with your product’s instructions. The PdV Brazilian Treatment needs the hair to be slightly damp in order to take effect.

Clip up your hair into four to eight sections and apply the product evenly to your hair. Take a section of your hair and apply the treatment product, starting with a small amount and increasing until the hair is coated but not overly saturated. Use a fine-tooth comb to work the product into each section, from roots to ends. Let the product sit for twenty to thirty minutes or as instructed. Fully blow-dry the hair and Straighten with a flat iron. Straighten your hair in small sections about one to two inches thick. Repeat this at least 3-5 times then rinse with just water.

Step 3: Straightening Conditioner

To conclude the treatment by applying the straightening conditioner. Distribute the product on the hair and leave on for 10 minutes under a heat source. This will allow the lost moisture to regenerate back into the hair. After that, rinse the hair and blow-dry straight.

To maintain the treatment it is important to use a salt free, after keratin care shampoo to make the effects last longer. It is also important to not allow any water to touch your hair for a minimum of 3 days to allow the treatment to penetrate each follicle permanently.
